Thanks for the emails. I got rid of them.

I'm hardly here since there's virtually no activity.

At least I came on today. I had report a bunch of explicit posts. So that's one upside to less activity, less people having their eyes contaminated by those posts.

Epicurean Hermit
Greetings, and welcome to the Epicurean Hermit! The ORIGINAL land hermit crab food site.
You must have joined us because you're interested in the best and widest diet to feed your crabs. To get you started, there is a comprehensive food list of hermit safe human-grade foods on this site. I recommend you buy organic, for your crabs' health.

The food list is long, but there are always new foods being added, so check back in the Articles section frequently.
This site is for diet and nutrition. If you wish to email me to answer any questions for you, please keep this in mind. I do not answer general crabbing questions. If you have a question about your crabs not related to diet or nutrition please visit EH's General board

When I was in Petsmart today, I was looking at the freeze dried goodies(and got some grasshoppers) I saw some freeze dried cactus. I haven't seen anything on it's safety with hermies and it's not on the lists. As a nice plus it was organic and it said it was very nutritious. I'm just wondering about this. So do you have any ideas?

I believe this was the one I saw: http://www.reptilesupply.com/product.php?products_id=2630

I have been wondering this too.Since I live in Arizona, cactus and cactus pears are very popular products in some stores.

I know for sure that cactus pears are safe. I gave some to my hermies. They didn't seem overly crazy about it(could've been the time of year, it was in the fall) except for one who sat there and ate it for hours.

Woah, It's been over 9 months Shocked! A little update on my situation:

I read about a crabber on another forum feeding her crabs cactus. I decided to buy the dry cactus to try with my crabbies The stuff was pretty pricey. The 1st time they didn't really eat it but on the 2nd offering, they ate some. I'll give it a few more tries before I say if they like it or not. No ill affects have been seen. One little word of caution if anybody wants to try cactus with their crabs- some types are toxic so offer only kinds meant for human consumption or the dried stuff from the pet store. Also, make sure there aren't any spines in it before offering. I'll post a little more on this later.
